Four Mountaineers Selected in 2025 NHL Draft

It was a milestone year for Edge School at the 2025 NHL Draft, as four Mountaineer alumni heard their names called and took the next step toward their professional hockey dreams. It was the first time that four Mountaineers have been selected in one NHL draft year. The previous high for NHL draft picks in one year was three – 2012 (Matt Dumba, Mitch Moroz, Coda Gordon) and 2024 (Terik Parascak, Charlie Elick, Eric Jamieson).

  • Jackson Smith led the way, selected in the first round, 14th overall
  • Nathan Behm was taken in the third round, 66th overall.
  • Carter Klippenstein was selected in the fourth round, 123rd overall.
  • Luke Vlooswyk was picked in the fifth round, 157th overall.

This year's draft class highlights the depth of talent and development within the Edge hockey program. Congratulations to Jackson, Nathan, Carter and Luke — we can't wait to watch you continue your journeys at the next level.
