Congratulations to U18 Prep goaltender, Carsten Leyerzapf, on signing a WHL Scholarship & Development Agreement with the Wenatchee Wild. Carsten was originally selected by Wenatchee in the seventh round of the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft, and has played for our U15, U15 Prep and U17 Prep that last three seasons.
Carsten was limited to just three regular-season appearances last season, but posted a 3.28 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage during that time. His 3.17 goals-against average and .931 save percentage for U17 Prep in the CSSHL Western Championships also led the squad. In his 2023-24 campaign ahead of the WHL draft, he racked up 11 wins in just 14 appearances for the U15 Prep team, and helped the team to a runner-up finish at the CSSHL Western Championships that spring.
"Carsten had a difficult 15-year-old season due to an injury that kept him out of the lineup for all but a handful of games late in the year," said Wenatchee Wild director of scouting Leigh Mendelson. "He had a great summer in the gym rehabbing his injury, and came to camp and earned this opportunity. He has very good physical tools, athleticism, and competes for every save. He will benefit greatly from his interactions with our goaltending coach Eric Williams during the season while with the Edge School, and into the future."
