Congratulations to our current Assistant Principal, Senior High Lead and Math Teacher, Mr. Tyson Banker, on his appointment as Director of Character and Student Life commencing in the 2024-25 school year.
 
Tyson has nearly 17 years of teaching experience (math) with 10 of those years having been at Edge across two stints. In addition to his teaching experience, Tyson has had a lot of involvement with our character curriculum over the years already, and is eager for the opportunity to level up the character sphere and student life in our school.
 
"While I am very passionate about teaching math because of the constant desire to improve and get better as a teacher, adding assistant principal duties this year allowed me to get to know more students in the school than just those in my classroom," says Tyson. "I appreciated the opportunity to develop relationships with Mountaineers across all grades, and do my part to help guide every student in our school to being an awesome human."
 
Although leaving teaching is a difficult choice for Tyson, he feels like a change to teaching and coaching our student-athletes in a different way is too exciting of an opportunity to pass up.
 
"I believe our staff has definitely grown the character sphere and student life over the past few years," says Tyson. "But I do think we have a huge opportunity to focus more attention on our character education and I look forward to playing a big part in that."
 
Tyson, we look forward to having you in this new role to oversee all of our school's character initiatives, and are thrilled to have a staff member take on a leadership role when it comes to student life at Edge.
